AWARENESS DEVELOPMENT

AWARENESS AND TRAINING

Diversity awareness and training are absolutely essential for competing and succeeding in today's ever-evolving marketplace. We know that managing an increasingly diverse workforce effectively is directly connected to employee satisfaction and increased productivity.

In this 1 or 2-day seminar, we address race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and other differences. We also provide a unique Transcultural Leadership Profile that challenges each person to a greater involvement and responsibility in meeting and working with those who are different in any aspect of their lives.

Heightened awareness regarding Diversity issues involves learning in a safe but provocative setting where intense small and large group discussions, real-case scenarios, and facilitated role-plays engage participants in a thoroughly active way. Throughout this process we teach basic communication skills that are critical to creating positive interactions.

This kind of awareness sets the stage for change where it is needed, and for new insights that create a better work environment for everyone.

This program accommodates up to 30 participants. (Adjustments can be made for a larger group size.)

Awareness Training for Employees

Most sexual harassment trainings promote unilateral harassment rules that tend to drive conflict underground and paradoxically, often breed more distrust and hostility in the work environment than existed previously. However, in our experience, most gender conflict on the job can be avoided by developing protocols for communication that acknowledge the real differences that often exist between women and men. High performance demands open lines of communication. Gender conflict reduces productivity, contributes to job-related stress, and increasingly results in grievance suits.

Sexual Harassment trainings are designed to educate the entire organizational culture. Anxiety and fear between women and men are reduced, communication is enhanced, and a collegial approach to gender conflicts is established. All points of view are valued and both sexes are considered equally part of the problem and part of the solution. Our trainings are proactive, preventative, and inclusive.

The workshop will cover:

Realities and Definitions

  • New laws, recent court rulings, EEOC guidelines
  • Define types of sexual harassment: Quid pro quo vs. Hostile Working Environment
  • Understand the EEOC's interpretation of "unwelcome" sexual advances
  • Know the types of sexually-related conduct which may be considered unwelcome

Awareness and Understanding

  • Understand the beliefs, attitudes, and cultural conditions that cause sexual harassment and other gender-based conflicts
  • Learn the economic and psychological costs of sexual harassment to organizations and individuals
  • Learn the proper steps to prevent the fear, ambiguity, and backlash that cause adversarial attitudes

Skills and Strategies

  • Prepare yourself with verbal and nonverbal communication skills that can prevent sexual harassment and reduce male / female conflict
  • Practice methods for communicating effectively and clearly with the harasser
  • Know how to report sexual harassment to the supervisor with clarity
  • Understand supervisors' responsibilities regarding prevention, investigation, and counseling of employees in the area of sexual harassment
  • Explore: what would you do? (Case studies)
  • Experience a blame-free forum in which participants can openly express conflicts and ask questions of one another
  • Learn how to enhance creativity, productivity, and team building between women and men

This 1-Day program utilizes 2 facilitators and accommodates up to 30 participants.

COACHING FOR INDIVIDUALS

In today’s multicultural workplace, a lack of diversity awareness or cultural sensitivity can generate serious ramifications for an organization. Individuals who transgress in these areas or who are accused of sexual harassment become a potential source of serious liability for a company. Many of the executives, managers, and other employees we work with are basically good-willed persons who through lack of experience or training engage in behaviors that often result in negative and seriously damaging consequences.

We have developed a full day and follow-up training program that is specifically customized for such individuals. The many aspects of diversity (gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.) and the principles for avoiding harassment behavior of any kind are thoroughly discussed. The training program is based on proven principles of change rather than simple conformity to expected behavioral norms. The one-on-one coaching sessions are specifically targeted to the individual’s personal development and are based on communication strategies that are frank, respectful, and caring.
