Once a solid awareness of diversity issues has been established, the most commonly asked question is "what's next?". Skill-building is critical to the success of any Diversity initiative, and the most essential skill is communication.

Even experienced communicators, however, can break down when confronted with emotionally charged situations that deal with such issues as race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. This course is for all employees who have had basic Diversity training and who wish to develop their ability to communicate more effectively around Diversity issues. The goal is to give people the skills to negotiate positive change in workplace interactions that involve Diversity issues.

Participants will learn and practice a Difficult Interactions Model which includes listening, responding, and next steps components. This model and other course tools enable participants to:

  • Defuse hostility
  • Avoid defensiveness
  • Promote a forward-moving quality in the most challenging situations


This customized 1-day workshop includes lecture, discussion, role-play, videotape feedback and interactive coaching. The program utilizes 2 facilitators, and allows a maximum of 12 participants to ensure adequate skill-building.
